Mr. Jay Lewter

Jay Lewter serves as Director of Communications for Chesapeake Public Schools, where he leads comprehensive internal and external communication strategies for the school district. With 26 years of experience in Chesapeake Public Schools, Mr. Lewter has served in a range of instructional and leadership roles. He began his career as a classroom teacher and later advanced into school administration, serving as both an assistant principal and principal. A lifelong resident and graduate of Chesapeake Public Schools, Mr. Lewter views his role as an ambassador for the division and is committed to fostering trust, transparency, and strong relationships with the community. He leads a highly-skilled team that supports strategic communications, media relations, crisis and emergency messaging, digital media, branding, and district publications for 40,000 students, 48 schools, and 3,000 employees.

Mr. Matt Graham

Mr. Graham has 22 years of experience in education, all in Chesapeake Public Schools. He currently serves as a Digital Media Specialist for Broadcast Media in the Communications Department. Mr. Graham taught middle school English, science, and history for 9 years. His utilization of technology in the classroom naturally led him to the role of Technology Integration Specialist, for which he served for 10 years. As a Technology Integration Specialist, he was named the 2021 Great Bridge Middle School Teacher of the Year and also awarded the 2021 Chesapeake Public Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year. Throughout his career, Mr. Graham has contributed to and led the implementation efforts of various school and district-wide initiatives.

Mr. Graham holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Longwood University and a Master of Arts in Education, Curriculum, and Instruction in Instructional Technology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
